Google Boosts Chrome Security with Real-Time Phishing Protection and AI
March 14, 2024
Google has announced an upgrade to Google Safe Browsing, offering real-time URL protection for Chrome users.
The update introduces AI and real-time checks against a server-side list to combat phishing, malware, and unwanted software.
Chrome's previous system updated a list of dangerous websites hourly, but with threats active for as little as 10 minutes, this was insufficient.
The new real-time feature is expected to block 25% more phishing attempts and improve user privacy.
The upgrade is currently available on Chrome for desktop and iOS, with an Android release scheduled for later in the month.
Enhanced encryption and privacy measures have been implemented to ensure the anonymity of users' website visits.
Password Checkup on iOS will now also alert users to weak, reused, or compromised passwords.
Google's Safe Browsing feature screens over 10 billion URLs and files daily, issuing 3 million warnings to users about potential threats.
