UK Science Secretary Michelle Donelan has apologized and compensated Professor Kate Sang after wrongly accusing her of sympathizing with Hamas.

Donelan settled using public funds, the amount remains undisclosed, and retracted her original social media post.

An official investigation by U.K. Research and Innovation cleared Professor Sang and another academic, Kamna Patel, of any extremist views or support for Hamas.

The libel case brought by Sang ended with a plan to donate a portion of the settlement to charity.

The misuse of public funds and the necessity for evidence-based accusations have been highlighted, sparking calls for a Cabinet Office inquiry.

Despite the controversy and criticism from opposition parties, the Prime Minister maintains 'full confidence' in Donelan.
