The National Archives of Australia is set to release 14 previously secret cabinet documents, including those concerning the Iraq War.

The documents were misplaced in 2020, but have since been recovered, and will be made public following a review.

The review attributed the misplacement to administrative errors and internal systemic issues, exacerbated by COVID-19 restrictions.

Out of the 14 documents, 12 will be fully released, while 2 will have redacted information.

An additional 68 cabinet records are under review and will be disclosed in the future, touching on issues from security to foreign affairs.

The review has also shed light on the difficulties of handling classified information during the pandemic, including office access and security clearance challenges.
