On May 9, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a high-level meeting with key defense officials, including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, to address escalating tensions in the region.

The meeting took place in the South Block, which is home to the Prime Minister's Office, Ministry of Defence, and Ministry of External Affairs.

These discussions were prompted by a series of drone attacks launched by Pakistan, which targeted 26 cities across Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Gujarat.

The drone attacks are part of ongoing hostilities, occurring for a second consecutive day, following explosions reported in Pakistani cities, including airbases in Rawalpindi and Shorkot.

Explosions were also reported in Islamabad and Lahore during the night of May 9-10, with the Pakistan Army claiming that India fired ballistic missiles into its territory.

In retaliation to the drone attacks, India conducted strikes targeting areas in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, specifically Neelam Valley and Sialkot.

This escalation in military actions highlights the deteriorating security situation between the two nations.
