Odisha’s renowned Odia music composer Abhijit Majumdar, who shaped Ollywood’s sound for over three decades, died at 54 after a prolonged illness, on a Sunday in late January.

Tributes poured in from fans and prominent figures, including Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, honoring his enduring contributions to Odia music.

He had been admitted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar, where he briefly improved and was on ventilator support as his condition fluctuated amid a serious health battle.

There were moments of improvement earlier in the year, including a discharge from the ventilator and a subsequent ICU readmission as his condition relapsed.

The hospital later confirmed a fresh infection on January 23 that preceded his rapid deterioration.

Majumdar married Ranjita Majumdar in 1999, and they shared a long partnership that was highlighted publicly, including a 2021 interview where he spoke about how she influenced his views on marriage.

They are survived by his wife and their son, Ayush Majumdar, who rarely appears on camera but featured in public discussions about the family.

Beyond his marriage, Majumdar had a recognizable public presence, including joint appearances with Ranjita on programs and family moments that resonated with fans.

The official hospital bulletin recorded a cardiac arrest at 7:43 am, with CPR administered and death declared at 9:02 am, despite resuscitation efforts.

Notable works include songs such as Balunga Toka and Chhapan Chhori, and he contributed to film music for projects like Sister Sridevi and Rangila Toka.

Reports indicate that multiple health issues contributed to his decline, with the exact cause of death not publicly announced.

In life, Majumdar remained active with fans on social media, and his last project Poglu was announced as a posthumous tribute expected later in 2026.
