Police Scotland is investigating reports that several foreign athletes did not return home after the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, including boxers from Uganda and Pakistan, as authorities conduct enquiries with the Home Office.

Uganda’s national broadcaster NBS Sport reported that four of Uganda’s six-boxing team members went missing before their planned return, with one boxer indicating an intent to seek asylum.

The Games spanned eleven days, featuring pop-up events at notable Glasgow locations that helped raise the city’s profile during the event.

Commonwealth Games chief executive Phil Batty said nearly 3,000 athletes from 74 nations participated, stressing ongoing collaboration with Police Scotland, Border Force, and UK Visas and Immigration to ensure safe arrivals and departures.

Organizers emphasize coordination with law enforcement and immigration authorities to ensure athletes’ arrivals and departures comply with regulations.

Uganda’s six-member boxing team competed in a Games that had around 3,000 athletes from 74 nations, with Scotland finishing fourth in the medals table.

Pakistan Today reported that one Pakistani boxer failed to board a flight home on Tuesday.

An African outlet quoted a missing boxer as saying they intend to seek asylum and pursue boxing careers in Scotland, a claim picked up by the Daily Record.

The Home Office said it will take action on any immigration breaches and will assess asylum cases on their merits under UK obligations; comments were sought from the Ugandan Education and Sports Ministry and other authorities.

Authorities, including the Home Office and Uganda’s Ministry of Sport, were contacted for comment, though no official statements were provided in the report.
