Fiat Chrysler, now part of Stellantis, will be tried in Paris for aggravated deception tied to the Dieselgate scandal, with the indictment alleging the company marketed diesel models that exceeded NOx limits and were calibrated to pass tests while degrading real-world performance.

In real driving conditions, the calibration strategy allegedly degraded pollutant control systems, increasing health risks from NOx emissions.

The trial is slated to begin in late 2028, with an initial hearing planned for late 2027, following the prosecutor’s requisitions from mid-2025.

Earlier, Volkswagen and Renault were already sent to Paris criminal court in 2024, with trial dates announced earlier.

In France, four automakers faced legal action over Dieselgate, all charged in 2021.

The indictment accuses Fiat Chrysler of marketing diesel Multijet II vehicles across Fiat, Alfa Romeo, and Jeep lines that frequently exceeded NOx limits and were designed to pass homologation tests while eroding real-world emission control.

These prosecutions sit within a broader Dieselgate context of test manipulation and culminate in criminal trials rather than administrative actions.

This marks the third French en‑contre renvoi in the Dieselgate case, with Renault and Volkswagen also moved to Paris, and Peugeot‑Citroën’s renvoi still pending.

Fiat Chrysler’s defense did not offer immediate comment, while civil parties’ lawyers did not respond at once.
