Volkswagen Unveils Affordable ID. 2all EV: Aiming for Global Leadership in Electric Mobility by 2030
February 5, 2025
The ID. 2all is designed to meet the growing consumer demand for eco-friendly vehicles without sacrificing quality or design.
The ID. 2all will feature a contemporary design with LED lights and will incorporate sustainable materials in its production.
Volkswagen is undergoing significant restructuring, including plans to cut 35,000 jobs by 2030, in response to declining EV demand in Europe and increased competition from Chinese manufacturers.
The company aims to become a leader in global electric vehicle production by 2030 while promoting sustainability initiatives.
Experts emphasize the urgency for Volkswagen and other Western brands to reduce battery electric vehicle costs to remain competitive against rapidly advancing Chinese manufacturers.
Volkswagen is set to launch an entry-level electric vehicle, the ID. 2all, priced at €20,000 (approximately Rs. 18.15 lakh), aimed at making electric mobility more accessible to consumers.
At a recent works meeting in Wolfsburg, CEO Thomas Schäfer outlined a three-stage plan for the brand's future, emphasizing the importance of sustainability and innovation.
A showcar of the ID. 2all is expected to be unveiled in early March 2025, with series production slated to begin by the end of 2027.
This compact electric vehicle is anticipated to offer a battery range of approximately 300 km on a single charge, catering specifically to urban and suburban drivers.
Advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), over-the-air software updates, and an intuitive user interface will be standard features in the new EV.
Wolfsburg will continue to be a key production site for Volkswagen, preparing to manufacture next-generation electric models on the new Scalable Systems Platform (SSP).
The SSP platform will facilitate a fully digitalized and scalable production process for all-electric vehicles, enhancing efficiency and performance.
