Tesla's FSD Update: European Expansion, Price Hikes, and Robotaxi Launch Planned
April 24, 2025
Tesla has provided a comprehensive update on its Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology, highlighting region-specific training, European expansion, and anticipated pricing changes.
Currently, the FSD system in use is the Supervised version, which has been operational since the launch of FSD V12 in 2024, but it has not received updates for over 100 days.
Despite significant advancements, challenges remain in validating FSD's safety and performance, with interventions needed on average every 10,000 miles, indicating a need for extensive driving data to facilitate improvements.
To support its FSD development, Tesla has recorded over 7.7 million miles driven daily in North America and China, leveraging its Dojo units for automated data labeling.
The majority of Tesla's fleet, including the Model S, 3, X, and Y, will support the upcoming FSD Unsupervised feature, although compatibility for the Cybertruck is still uncertain.
FSD for Europe is pending regulatory approval, with hopes to launch before the end of 2025, although delays are expected due to regulatory challenges.
Tesla plans to enhance FSD by incorporating region-specific parameters to improve performance in various weather conditions, such as snow and glare, thereby increasing reliability and user comfort.
Looking ahead, Tesla is set to pilot its Robotaxi network in Austin in June 2025, with plans for rapid expansion across the U.S. by the end of 2026, utilizing existing Tesla models.
As Tesla expands FSD capabilities, future pricing is expected to rise, with current subscription rates at $99 monthly viewed as too low by Tesla executives.
Tesla aims to launch FSD Unsupervised by the end of 2025, focusing on achieving a safety level significantly better than that of human drivers prior to rollout.
