Isuzu Unveils D-MAX EV: First Fully Electric Pickup with Dual-Motor Power and Impressive Towing Capacity
April 29, 2025
The D-MAX EV is set to be shipped to Europe starting in the third quarter of 2025, with right-hand drive models for the UK expected to begin production by the end of 2025 and sales starting in 2026.
This electric pickup closely resembles Isuzu's popular diesel D-MAX but replaces the diesel powertrain with dual electric motors, offering a dual-motor four-wheel-drive system with 140 kW of power.
Measuring about 207 inches in length, the D-MAX EV positions itself as a competitor in the midsize pickup market, closely resembling the Ford Ranger.
Pricing details for the D-MAX EV have not yet been disclosed, but it is anticipated to be priced slightly higher than the current diesel model, which starts at around $41,600.
The left-hand drive version of the D-MAX EV is expected to be available in European countries by the third quarter of 2025, with a right-hand drive version planned for the UK by February 2026.
The D-MAX EV matches the towing capacity of Isuzu's diesel D-Max at 7,716 pounds (3,500 kg) and boasts a payload capability of approximately 2,226 pounds (1,010 kg).
Designed for versatility, the D-MAX EV features over 8 inches (210 mm) of ground clearance and a wading depth of nearly 24 inches (600 mm), making it suitable for both on and off-road use.
Isuzu has officially launched the D-MAX EV, its first fully electric pickup truck, which commenced mass production in Thailand on April 29, 2025.
Powered by a 66.9 kWh lithium-ion battery, the D-MAX EV provides a driving range of up to 263 km (162 miles) on the WLTP cycle, with the potential for 224 miles (361 km) in city driving conditions.
While Isuzu intends to introduce the electric truck in other markets depending on demand, it has not confirmed plans for its release in the US.
The D-MAX series is sold in over 100 countries, and the electric version will compete with other pickups like the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, and electric models such as Geely's Radar R6 and Ford's F-150 Lightning.
