Peugeot Revives GTi Legacy with Electric e-208 GTi Debut at Le Mans
June 13, 2025
Peugeot has unveiled the e-208 GTi at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, presenting it as a spiritual successor to the iconic 205 GTi with a powerful 206 kW electric motor.
This new model features a front-wheel drive system that delivers 345 Nm of torque, enabling it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds.
Exterior modifications enhance its sporty appearance, including flared wheel arches, shorter overhangs, a lower stance, and a wider track.
Inside, the e-208 GTi boasts integral seats styled in leather and Alcantara, along with a dashboard featuring a carbon-like finish that evokes the sporty essence of the 1980s.
While the vehicle's top speed is 180 km/h, which is slower than the original 205 GTi models, it is well-suited for twisty country roads.
Unique 'Hole' alloy wheels and subtle spoilers reinforce its connection to the classic GTi lineage.
The e-208 GTi is equipped with a limited-slip differential that enhances traction and handling during acceleration.
Designed for improved handling, the car is 30mm lower and has wider tracks—56mm at the front and 27mm at the rear—compared to standard e-208 variants.
It rides on 18-inch wheels fitted with 215/40 Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, which honor the heritage of the original 205 GTi while improving brake cooling.
Powered by a 54 kWh battery supplied by CATL, the e-208 GTi offers a driving range of approximately 350 kilometers and supports fast charging at a maximum rate of 100 kW.
Peugeot emphasizes the e-208 GTi's promise of driving pleasure, reinforcing their commitment to delivering an enjoyable driving experience.
Production of the e-208 GTi's electric drivetrain occurs in Trémery, France, at a facility that has transitioned to specialize in electric motors.
