Geely Auto Australia is preparing to launch the Starray EM-i, a mid-size plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), in the fourth quarter of 2025, expanding its lineup alongside the recently introduced electric EX5.

This upcoming model follows the successful launch of the all-electric Geely EX5 earlier in 2025, highlighting Geely's commitment to expanding its new energy vehicle offerings in Australia.

The Starray EM-i will be powered by Geely's innovative EM-i Super Hybrid technology, which combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine with a robust electric motor, delivering a total output of 193kW.

Specifically, the PHEV system will feature a petrol engine providing 73kW and an electric motor contributing 160kW, ensuring a powerful and efficient driving experience.

Equipped with an 18.4kWh Lithium-Iron Phosphate battery, the Starray EM-i supports pure electric driving and includes a Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function that allows for up to 3.3kW output for outdoor or emergency use.

The battery technology also incorporates advanced silicon carbide technology for efficient power management, enhancing the vehicle's overall performance.

Safety remains a top priority for Geely, with the GEA platform ensuring that the battery units undergo rigorous testing against extreme conditions to guarantee durability and reliability.

Drivers will benefit from three intelligent driving modes: 'Pure' for electric-only driving, 'Hybrid' for optimal fuel economy, and 'Power' for maximum performance.

Known as the Galaxy Starship 7 in China, the Starray EM-i has seen significant success, selling over 80,000 units since its debut in late 2024 in its domestic market.

In the competitive landscape, the Starray EM-i will directly rival the BYD Sealion 6, which starts at $42,990, although Geely has yet to announce pricing for its new model.

Geely's CEO, Lei Li, expressed confidence that the Starray EM-i will strengthen the company's presence in the Australian market by addressing local needs for features and cost efficiency.
