Pure Lithium Corporation is relocating its headquarters to Chicago's Fulton Market district, signaling Illinois' strong commitment to clean energy and economic growth.

The company plans to invest $46 million in Illinois, supported by the Reimagining Energy and Vehicles in Illinois (REV Illinois) program, to develop batteries for diverse markets including drones, defense, consumer electronics, energy storage, and electric vehicles.

This move is expected to create at least 50 new jobs, with the company establishing a corporate office and prototyping facility in Fulton Market, and eventually building a manufacturing plant in Illinois.

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker welcomed the relocation, highlighting its potential to boost local employment and strengthen the state's clean energy ecosystem.

Pure Lithium aims to transition from research and development to commercial production, focusing on industries such as drones, defense, consumer electronics, and electric vehicles.

CEO Emilie Bodoin emphasized that the relocation marks a critical shift toward commercial manufacturing, including plans for a semi-automated battery pilot line.

Founded in Boston in 2020, Pure Lithium specializes in lithium metal batteries that are environmentally friendly and do not use graphite, nickel, cobalt, or manganese, making their products cheaper and more sustainable.

The company aims to be the first in Illinois to produce commercially viable lithium metal batteries, with manufacturing set to begin in North America using locally sourced materials to reduce reliance on imports from China.

The Chicago move positions Pure Lithium closer to Argonne National Laboratory, with whom they are collaborating on a U.S. Department of Energy-funded project to scale production of lithium metal anodes using recycled materials.

This strategic location choice was influenced by Chicago’s robust infrastructure, skilled workforce, and proximity to Argonne, supporting the company's growth and innovation efforts.

The company plans to launch operations in Fulton Market this fall, creating at least 50 new jobs and qualifying for REV incentives from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.

The new facility is expected to open in 2025, housing up to 100 employees, marking a significant milestone in Pure Lithium’s expansion.
