SK On Leads in Automotive Cybersecurity with First International CSA Certification for Battery Management System
July 10, 2025
SK On has achieved a significant milestone by earning the first international Cyber Security Assessment (CSA) certification for its battery management system (BMS) in Korea, underscoring its leadership in automotive cybersecurity.
The company’s BMS is a vital control system in electric vehicles, responsible for monitoring battery voltage and temperature, optimizing performance, and detecting abnormalities.
In addition to cybersecurity, SK On obtained a Functional Safety Management System (FSMS) Level 3 certification, confirming its framework to prevent hazards during vehicle operation.
SK On also earned a Level 3 FSMS certification under ISO 26262, ensuring systematic safety risk management throughout the product lifecycle, and previously secured a Level 3 cybersecurity certification under ISO/SAE 21434.
Both certifications were awarded by TÜV Rheinland, a German testing organization, highlighting SK On’s leadership in automotive safety and cybersecurity.
This certification recognizes SK On’s adherence to global technological and safety standards, with plans to expand the application of its certified BMS through strategic partnerships, including supplying European automakers.
These certifications align with international and UN regulations, including UNECE’s Regulation No. 155, which mandates cybersecurity compliance for new vehicles sold in 56 countries.
SK On’s commitment to global standards is further demonstrated by its earlier achievement of ISO/SAE 21434 CSMS Level 3 certification in May, reinforcing its capability to manage cybersecurity risks.
