A Seattle-based team at Blue Dot Motorworks has developed a retrofit hybrid system that enables the conversion of gas and diesel vehicles into electric hybrids, addressing the slow transition to electric vehicles (EVs) due to consumer retention of older models.

The prototype for this innovative system, named the Narwhal, aims to provide an affordable conversion kit that costs only a few thousand dollars and can be installed in about a day.

This initiative is particularly significant as many consumers are unable to afford new EVs, often keeping their vehicles for 10 to 20 years due to economic constraints.

Blue Dot Motorworks has garnered significant attention as a startup, receiving investment support to manufacture their conversion technology at a lower cost than purchasing new EVs or hybrids.

The retrofit hybrid system, known as RHS, allows vehicles to operate on electric power until the battery is depleted, after which they revert to their traditional fossil fuel engine, aiming to reduce pollution.
