BMW EVs to Access Tesla Superchargers by 2025, Expanding Charging Options for US Drivers
December 11, 2025
BMW electric vehicles in the United States will gain access to Tesla’s Supercharger network starting December 2025, dramatically expanding charging options and reducing range anxiety for BMW owners.
Official access for US customers will put BMW i4, iX, and other EVs on a network with over 25,000 fast-charging stalls through a mutually open system.
Industry observers expect more automakers to adopt open-access charging strategies, accelerating interoperability and the broader shift to sustainable transportation.
Access is enabled via a Remote Software Upgrade and a compatible North American Charging System (NACS) DC adapter, with Tesla’s Magic Dock letting BMWs charge at compatible stations without extra hardware.
Pricing will follow Tesla’s standard non-Tesla rates, which are generally higher than Tesla owner rates unless a monthly membership is used.
The move adopts the NACS connector, and BMW vehicles will appear in BMW’s navigation and My BMW app to locate nearby Superchargers.
Technological and economic effects include greater consumer confidence in EVs, reduced charging logistics for BMW owners, and more investment in high‑speed, interoperable charging networks.
The collaboration covers more than 25,000 fast-charging stations in the U.S., signaling a major shift toward an integrated charging ecosystem and changing competitive dynamics among automakers and providers.
BMW’s Plug & Charge is supported at Tesla stations, removing the need to use the Tesla app; billing will be processed through Shell Recharge via the My BMW app.
Current BMW EVs with CCS ports require a CCS-to-NACS adapter to use most Tesla Superchargers; official adapters will be sold as accessories starting in the second quarter of 2026, while third‑party adapters are already available.
Some locations, called “Magic Dock,” include built-in CCS adapters, allowing immediate charging for any BMW EV without additional hardware.
Affected BMW models include 2022–2024 iX and i4, 2024 i5, and 2023–2024 i7, all needing the software update and hardware compatibility to access Superchargers.
