Tesla Opens Nevada Factory for Mass Production of 50,000 Semis Annually by 2026
August 25, 2026
Tesla will inaugurate its new 1.7 million-square-foot Semi factory in Sparks, Nevada, with a ceremonial event on September 24, 2026, while production has already begun on a high-volume line.
The Sparks plant is part of a $3.6 billion expansion announced in 2023 and is designed to produce up to 50,000 Tesla Semi trucks annually, leveraging vertical integration with nearby Gigafactory Nevada.
This facility is intended to sustain up to 50,000 Semis per year and followed Tesla’s initial Semi production on a high-volume line that started earlier in the year.
Pilot hardware has already been delivered to customers such as PepsiCo, with Sysco, Saia, and Martin Brower among others testing the truck since December 2022.
Analysts are watching how quickly the plant converts designed capacity into actual output and seeking concrete figures on operating costs and efficiency to gauge competitiveness.
The program’s history includes a 2017 unveiling, an initial 2019 target, hand-built units delivered to PepsiCo in 2022, and a shift toward full-scale mass production only now.
As of the report, Tesla’s online Semi configurator remains closed and public orders are not being accepted.
The Semi offers Standard Range (325 miles) and Long Range (500 miles) versions, both with an 800-kilowatt three-motor powertrain and Megacharger compatibility, enabling about 70% of battery range to be restored in roughly 30 minutes.
The updated Semi features a redesigned cockpit with electric steering, a 48-volt system, upgraded actuators, 4680 cells for durability, and a new front light bar.
The Semi’s launch was delayed from its 2019 target due to battery supply constraints, chemistry changes, and factory construction after its 2017 reveal.
Tesla began deliveries to PepsiCo in 2022 after revealing the Semi in 2017, with production limited until the new expansion unlocked mass output.
The Semi will have 10 cameras and Tesla has signaled that Full Self-Driving will be offered in a future update.
